Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism Department

Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism, Youth Affairs, Sports, Culture and Archaeology Department is a government body to control tourism and travel in Gilgit-Baltistan. Tourism Department was established in 2006 to regulate tourism related industry within Gilgit-Baltistan with special focus on promotion of private sector as main service provider and promotion of Gilgit-Baltistan as a tourist’s friendly destination in national and international market.

The department is headed by a secretary with its regional directorate and six district offices all over Gilgit-Baltistan. Ministry of Tourism Islamabad is responsible for overall policy formulation and implementation of tourism related rules and regulations. It has prioritized the protection, revival and promotion of culture and heritage as vital to Gilgit-Baltistan development, with greater emphasis through steps such as holding the Silk Route Festival, facilitating road network and access that encourage tourism and believes that  desired objectives of economic growth, employment generation and poverty reduction may be achieved through conservation of natural and cultural heritage of Gilgit-Baltistan which is most promising tourism product of Gilgit-Baltistan.
